This is an old design that Karey Solomon published in her Tatting Times. She re-worked it so the "Hens and Chicks" had chains instead of the traditional bare thread between the rings. I specially like this because I tend to make a mess when leaving bare threads between rings, ending up with unequall space between the rings.
I used the Star thread that Georgia sent me a few weeks ago. I still have some more left but it took almost half of the ball. I had to cut some mistakes several times... 
The navy blue thread is DMC Petra #8. It's slighty bigger than the Star which is a #30 but it worked fine with the chains. I love to mix sizes and colors!
I'm not sure if I'll depart of this doily. May be I'll keep it.
