Well, last year I ended it miserable because of the burnt hand but now I feel much better, the hand is not hurting and last night (I mean this morning) I finished the doily. Well it has another round but I find that I like it this way.
It measures 12 inches in diameter. I haven't iron it so it looks a little ruffled, but it lays perfectly flat. The colors don't look as bad now that is finished. The blue is Miquita and the yellow is DMC Petra. It's an interesting combination of materials because Petra is a cotton perle and Miquita is a mercerized thread. Both threads have their own texture. I prefer the Miquita over the Petra but unfortunately that's a thread that is not easily found as Petra. Also the price is different. Miquita comes in balls of 50 grams for almost $5 and the Petra comes in 100 grams balls for $3. You do the math!
I had plenty of thread on the shuttles and made a few small motifs.
 Here is a small bookmark using the Miquita in white and blue. Here is another small motif using the same threads.  This is the center motif of the next doily I'll make. It's a square doily with a very interesting design. But this time I'll use one color: ecru. All this was made like in 2 hrs this morning (around 3 am, sleepless night again!) while watching TV and listening to hubby's snores. lol All of these are now comfy in the Tatting Box, taking a nap. I think I'll do the same now. But before I'll sketch some ideas for tatting that I have been having in the last 3 days. Looks like 2008 will be a good year for tatting!
Well, it's really late (or early 6:20 am) and I'm not sleepy. So I just added a small tassel to the rose motif and I love it. I made a RicRac chain and finished with a clover with long picots that later I cut. It looks so pretty and elegant. Sorry for the photo but that's the best I can do at this time of the morning! 
This is the other pattern discussed last night. It's a celtic edging. I love this one!!!! It looks like first you make the white and then 2 braids and interweave it and put it in the center. But the thing is that is all made in one pass. It uses 4 shuttles; 2 with white thread and 2 shuttles each with one color. I used a Baby Powder Blue with a mute Green. I made it into a bookmark so the ends I made a weird braid.
I tried to make a close up of the braid but it's too blurry. I'll try to take another shot when it's day tomorrow. The pattern is also by Ruth and can be found here.

This one is the 2nd entry. It's another original design from the same book. The name of this pattern is "Royale". I used the thread that Tanya from NY sent me in the Tin Exchange. It's a Turkish thread in a gold color. It was a litle bit of a challenge to make this bookmark because the thread kept unraveling and untwisting; so each time I was going to make a ring or a chain I had to add extra twist to the thread. Also I had to make a little variation becaue I made a small mistake in the pattern, but is not something that is going to affect the judging. I still need to make the tassels. Also I neeed to make the 3rd entry of the bookmarks. Just need to make up my mind in which pattern to use next.  Probably will be also an original.
This is one of the 3 entries for the Bookmark category. It's another original pattern amd is called "Habibi", which means "dear or darling" in arabic. The pattern is part of the "Just 'Knot' a Bookmark" pattern book that I published a few years ago. I'm thinking in re-publishing the book in an E-Book format so I can sell it easier to the International tatters and also I'll be translating it to Spanish. The threads I used are DMC Cebelia #30 in light pink and light yellow; another cute combination I like to use.

Rick Rack Size Medium
Shuttle
Thread #30 or Perle #8
Crochet hook #14 for joining to the rick rack
Abbreviations:
R: Ring
CH: Chain
CL: Close
RW: Reverse Work
+ : Join to rick rack bump
- : Picot
-- : Long Picot
Instructions:
Prepare the rick rack, cutting the amount desire. Try to make "straight" the ends and dab a little of fabric glue or white glue to the ends. This is going to help to avoid the rick rack to unbraid and help with the joining of the tatting in that area.
R: 8 ds, join to one of the bumps or the rick rack, 8 ds. CL. RW
*CH: 8 - 2 -- 2 - 8. RW.
R: 8 + (join to the same last bumb) 8. CL.
R: 8 + (to the next bump) 8. CL. RW*
Repeat from * up to the end of the rick rack. Finish the pattern at the end with the 2nd ring.
CH: 8 - 2 -- 2 - 8. RW.
R: 8 + (to the end of the rick rack) 8. CL. Repeat until you have 5 rings at the end of the rick rack. Finish with a ring.
R: 8 + (join to the next bump) 8. CL. RW.
Continue the pattern around.

Chenille strand (pipe cleaner)
Shuttle and Ball Special Abbreviation: IP : Inverted Picot The Inverted Picot is made by making 3 1st half stitch, picot, 3 2nd half stitch. Pull the picot down so it's in position. Instructions: Take the chenille and make a circle. Twist both ends together. Having this join in the middle, take a pen or pencil and place it inside the chenille and twist. Place the pen under this twist and twist again. This will make a circle on the chenille. Repeat until all the chenille is twisted. Tatted Edging: R: 8 + (to a chenille circle) 8. RW. CH: 5 (IP) 3 - 3 (IP) 5. RW. R: 8 + (to next chenille circle) 8. RW. Repeat around. Corner: R: 8 + (to a chenille circle) 8. RW. CH: 5 (IP) 3 - 3 (IP) 5. RW. R: 8 + (to next chenille circle) 8. RW. CH: 5 (IP) 3 - 3 (IP) 5. RW. R: 8 + (to next chenille circle) 8. RW. CH: 5 (IP) 3 - 3 (IP) 5. RW. R: 8 + (to next chenille circle) 8. RW. Continue with the pattern the other side and finish the other corner in the same fashion. Cut and hide ends. If preferred a tassel can be added.
Here is the other bookmark that I received. This one from Lori from SC. It's a gorgeous pattern! You can find the pattern on Jane Eborall's web site. It's made in celtic style. I love celtic style tatting. The interweaving of the pieces or elements gives a unique look that you can't find commonly in laces. Also I love the colors she used! Because I don't like beads on my bookmarks, she used lentils (is that the name in English?  ) of a silver tone. Thanks a lot Lori!!!
I received this bookmark yesterday. With the hook up to the DVD I forgot to blog about it. I was participating in a Tatting Exchange about Bookmarks. I had 2 partners. Already received both of them. The one here is from Traci Peterson from WI. It's made using thread Flora #10 and decorated on the tasell with a blue crystal leaf. It's really pretty. I like this color. I had some of this thread but in size #20. Flora tats really nice but sometimes I find it too hard for my fingers. Thanks a lot Traci!
Hey guys! You can guess I'm in the "Sleepless Mode". Yep I'm not sleeping more than 4 hours in a day. So what to do with all this time? Tat, of course. I finished the bookmark I was trying yesterday. I made the last model with all the corrections and will be heading toward a friend for the Bookmark Exchange. The Brown/Yellow will go to my other friend. So both of them have "mommies" already. I like to give these patterns for free, but it hurts to see them posted in other sites without the proper credit. As usually comments are welcome as well as any inqueries or doubts about the patterns. Don't have time to tat or don't know how to tat? Well, I can't teach right now but I can sell you the bookmark already done. LOL Okay, bad publicity. I guess is time to go to sleep. It's 3 am!!!
Well, now that I'm more calm I can write about what I've been tatting lately. On Jan 5th, while in the family house of my BIL, I had an idea for a bookmark. Here is what I was thinking about. 
I tried to make the bookmark but I noticed I was making too many stitches in the chain and I made a mistake in the amount of big rings so I decided to cut it where it was. Last night I returned to the idea. I have been working making some tatted spoons and making a small edging around the bangle using cotton perle #8 and DMC machine embroidery thread to work the chains. I like to work with this combination of different sizes of thread. I can make what I call mock mignonette. It's a pretty cool effect specially when working with contrasting colors. Anyway, here is the result. Even in this model I still had to adjust the counting on the chains and I need to make bigger the Long Picot where the big rings are connected but it looks like I want. 
I think that in this last one I got what I want. May be some minor adjustment in the counting, but I don't think will be mayor difference. I'm going to make a couple of them and send them with the pattern to my Bookmark Exchange partners. The pattern will be up in my web site later. 
Also I received today the order I made from DS9Designs (Deb Arnold). I ordered the Celtic Doily, a kit for a dragonfly and a kit for angel earrings. I couldn't wait and I made the earrings in less than 45 minutes. I found them so cute!!! I think I'll order some more beads later to make more angels. I find that the kits are very good. She printed the pattern in a stock card paper and folded like a little booklet, color printed. It also includes enough beads and threads for both earrings. The thread was more than enough. I even managed to make 3 butterflies with the leftover of the thread. In a few minutes I'll make the dragonfly and may be start the Celtic Doily. Hmm... I need to check if I have some unused or almost empty shuttles.
