This is also from Crochet Memories and you can find the free pattern here.  It's done as the Crinoline Lady in Altin Basak #10 baby pink.  It's smaller than the lady so I'm thinking in adding this one to the face towel and the lady to the regular towel.  I'm thinking what to make for the hand towel.  May be a smaller lady but in tatting.  I have a pattern for one and if I use the same thread will be the perfect size for the hand towel.

I also need to make some flowers and buy ribbon for the decoration.

I have always love the crinoline ladies.  They're so elegant!  Yesterday I found a link (I think Enid posted it) for Crochet Memories.  They have gorgeous patterns and some of the patterns are Crinoline Ladies.  I couldn't resist this one!

I still need to get some silk or sating ribbons and I'm planning to make some tatted small flowers to make the decoration.  Then will be sew into a towel for mom's bathroom which is pink.

The thread is Altin Basak #10 and baby pink (tho the scan looks dark).

Blog EntryCrochet Hat with tatted butterfly and flowersMar 23, '08 1:51 AM
for everyone

Mom wanted a hat and I finished one today.  The hat pattern is from Patterns by Dot.  I used Red Heart yarn in white.  The flowers and butterfly are my original patterns.  I used El Beida cotton perle #8 in different shades of pinks and reds.  The patterns will be on my web site soon.  I made a smaller version of the hat in "Watercolors" for my sister Letty's niece.  Tomorrow I'll take photos of that one.  I made it with a smaller hook and placed one butterfly on it.

You can find the rest of the photos in this photo album.

Made for mom. Flowers and butterflies are original patterns. Hat from Patterns by Dot

I finished this doily last night.  It took me like 4 days to finish because I had to "frog" twice a complete round.  Watching TV and crocheting at the same time is not my best.  I can tat and watch TV without problems.    The pattern is from Decorative Crochet #7.  The threads are Altin Basak (Turkish thread) #10.  I used the same colors as in the pattern because mom's decoration is the same color's scheme.  The original pattern is made in perle #8 and measures 16 inches.  But because I used #10 the doily is much bigger, 23 inches.

Here is a photo I tried taking it from atop the table.  I'm short and I couldn't climb up on the chair or mom will kill me.    But it looks better.

Blog EntryNew ShawlMar 19, '08 10:25 PM
for everyone
I forgot to show you my shawl.  I finish this one just for the trip.  The pattern is from a Russian magazine.  It's suppose to be a poncho, making 2 panels and sewing it in some parts.  Also have a trim of fun fur.  I made it simple; just one panel and no trim.  I added the tassels, because a shawl is not a shawl without tassels.

Mom is modeling it.  I used an acrylic yarn that I bought a few months ago and was to make another of the half moon shawl but I got tire of that pattern and wanted to make a different one.  I used a G hook.  The pattern is diagramed and in a low resolution, but you can play with the counting if you are an expert crocheter.

And here a candid shot of mom.  She was just joking.    This one I have to keep an eye on it or mom will keep it.  lol

Blog EntryCrochet Bruges DoilyFeb 27, '08 9:20 AM
for everyone

Not bad, eh?  Only 2 hours to whip this one.  I guess I haven't forget how to make crochet Bruges.  The original Bruges lace is made in bobbin lace but this crochet imitation is famous and pretty none the less.  I still have thread for a second one.  Geesh!  These threads don't want to finish!  lol

Now I'll take a rest and cook something to eat.  I'm famish!

Blog EntryTrips, Crochet and InsomniaFeb 27, '08 7:32 AM
for everyone
Yesterday hubby got me the air ticket to travel.  I'll be leaving Egypt on March 11th and will travel directly to NY.  Still I need to buy the ticket from NY to PR.  I hope to do that tonight or at least the week.  I'll arrive to NY around 4 pm and the next available and affordable trip to PR is at 9 pm.  I don't want to stay in NY one night because the flight is booked so I have to do it fast.  Not that I don't like NY but been alone in NY is boring.  None of my friends live near the JFK airport.  Or is there someone that lives near the airport?  In that case I can spent a couple of days.

So now that it's official the trip my insomnia and nerves will go from bad to worst. *sigh*  It's something that always happens.  The packing, the things to buy for others, the cleaning of the house...  Really makes me sick all this.  One or two days before the trip I totally stop sleeping.  I have been up to 72 hours awake.  And no, I barely sleep on the plane.  I snore and I'm ashame of it.  May be I can snooze like 10 minutes or so, but that's not really sleeping.

I'm trying to keep myself calm and I'm crocheting.  Today I finished another crochet doily.  This one is oval with 2 pineapples at the end.  It took me like 12-15 hours to finish, taking a lot of rest between rounds.  I don't want the carpal tunnel flare up again.

The pattern is from a Decorative Crochet magazine #59.  The thread is Melanie #10, color #161; a variegated thread with pink, lavender, blue, mint green and white.  Here is the magazine photo so you can see well the design.

I have some thread left and I'm making a small crochet Bruge doily.  I hope the thread is enough.  I haven't make crochet Bruge in years!!!  Let see if I can get it again.

Blog EntryBlack Mantilla DoilyFeb 23, '08 5:52 AM
for everyone

I have been working in this doily for almost 2 weeks. It's a free pattern from Coats and Clark.  You can download it from them or the PDF attachment in this post.  I like the design.  Mantilla is Spanish for "veil" and it resemblance the old veils that women used to go to church.  The thread I used is a new one for me.  It's Helwan, a 100% Egyptian cotton.  The thickness is a little bit more than the regular #10 we use to crochet but not quite the #5.  It's very soft to work and I liked the result.  I took so long to make it because I'm having problems with my eyesight and I was able to crochet only a few hours per day using the natural sunlight.  Also the pattern is written in a confusing way in some parts and I had to "frog" several rounds twice or thrice.  But yesterday afternoon I finished it.

I need to wash it to see if the dye wash-off,, but while working with it my hands didn't get black so I think it's okay.  Also I need to steam it 'cause it's a little ruffled.  This pattern is definitively for an intermediate to advance crocheter.  The total size of the doily is 18" and I used a 2.50mm hook.

Blog EntryCrochet DoilyFeb 11, '08 8:59 AM
for everyone

I just finished last night a crochet doily.  It's been awhile since the last time I crocheted and the bug bite me.  lol  The doily measures 16 inches from th etip of the picot to the other side picot.  I need to steam it so the points are straights.  I hate to do so many picots.  I guess this was the medicine.  Yuck!    I almost didn't made that last round.  But now I'm happy with the results.

Sorry for the blurry photo but I don't have anything big enough to make contrast.  Here is a detailed photo.

The thread I used is Melanie size #10.  It's a Brazilian thread.  Very soft.  The color is variegated and has pastel tones of pink, yellow and blue.  The pattern is shown with a duo of smaller versions but I only had a ball and it went almost complete.  When I travel I'll try to find the same thread and make the companions.

Now I have a another variegated but with blue hues.  Will see what I'll make.

Blog EntryScarf and Hat setDec 26, '07 4:56 AM
for everyone

Here is my hubby modeling his scarf and hat set I crocheted for him a couple of weeks ago.  I forgot to take the photo when I finished and he took them with him so I didn't take a photo until now.  The hat is too big but he's using it anyway.  lol  The scarf is a simple pattern I got at Lion Yarns.  I added tassels at the ends.  I'm attaching the PDF pattern here.  The hat I was trying to make it from memory from a hat I made like 6-7 years ago and I made an increasing round too much.  I think next time I'll make a correct one.
