Blog EntryBookmarks ExchangeMay 14, '08 11:16 AM
for everyone

These are the bookmarks I made for May's Bookmark Exchange.  It's a pattern commonly use.  I don't follow a pattern in specific, I use my own counting and I vary it a lot!

The one on the left I used Omega (from Mexico) thread #50 and the one on the right is Olympus (from Japan) #30.  Great threads to tat with.  I find the Omega here in PR easily and the Olympus was a gift from Palmetto's when I went there 3 years ago.  I'm not going to mention who are going to receive them.    Both will receive other goodies with the bookmarks.

Blog EntryTatted Doilies for ExchangeFeb 25, '08 8:09 AM
for everyone

I joined an exchange.  It's been a long time that I don't do exchanges, mostly because the postal service here in Egypt is so bad.   So now that I'll travel to PR I decided to join again the exchanges 'cause I can mail them from there easily and without the worries of the package been open or lost in the Twilight Zone.

So I made the one above but the chains still need some tweaking.  Some of them overlap and I had to steam it to lay flat because it was cupping a little.  I think I need to work with my picots.  The joining ones are like "disappearing", each time are smaller and smaller.  I still need to hide the ends of that one.

This one I just finished it and steam it.  The pattern is from Iris Niebach's book Tatted Doilies.  It's a lovely book.  This one is called Nora.  I used cotton perle #8 in raspberry and white and it measures 6 1/2 inches.

I have 2 partners and I think I'll repeat this one using other colors for the other partner.

Hmm...  One of the partners mentioned that she likes cool colors.  What colors are cool?

Blog EntryHeart ExchangeJan 29, '07 12:58 AM
for everyone

I joined a heart exchange and I made this one for my partner. I won't say who is she so it'll still be a surprise! The pattern is one of my originals. It's will be in a book, eventually. But in this one I made a little variation. Wanna guess? Look at the flowers' center... Yep, that's right! Daisy Picot centers! LOL Can you see an obsession here?

I left almost a yard of thread at the ends so if my partner wants to sew the heart she can use those ends. If not, then she can cut them. Hopefully (inshallah) I'll put it on the mail tomorrow after I buy a postcard from Alex. Also tomorrow I'll go with a friend to visit another. One of the ladies that came to visit me last time is coming to take me to the other one's home. Am I making sense? Geesh! I need more coffee! Anyway, the heart will fly tomorrow!

Blog EntryMy tin exchangeMay 14, '06 3:57 PM
for everyone

I was participating of the Tin Exchange and all this is what I got from Tanya on NY.  It's so wonderful everything inside.

The golden thread is a new (at least for me) thread from Altin Basak, a turkish company and it's my favorite brand to tat with.  It's polyester and slippery, works kinda like rayon, which I love to work with.

The small white one is DMC #80 in white.  I love to work with thin threads and DMC #80 has been one of my favorite for years!

There's another thread that is metalic over nylon (?) that I haven't work with.  It's enough to make a small motif or most likely to use it in chains.  Hmm...  I think I'll be testing it with some butterflies.

Also there are 2 packs of beads in irridiscent rose and blue.  I'm anxious to tat something with them!  None the least also she added a pack of beading needles!  I was in need of them!

The small bookmark has a pre-embossed hat and a tatted buterfly is decorating the hat's ribbon.

There's a small floral motif tatted with a button for a center in burgandy and rose.  Lovely colors and motif!

And the tin is so beautiful!!!  It has written the word "Liberty" and some Americana style drawings.  I'm keeping everything that came inside on it and already is full with other stuff.

Thanks so much Tanya!!!

PS:  Yours will be on its way soon!  I promise!

Blog EntryKate's DoilyApr 29, '06 3:45 PM
for everyone

Here is the doily that Kate sent me.  Isn't it gorgeous!?  I love the color too.

The pattern is from Nancy from the Be-Stitched.com and it's on her "Free Pattern" section.  I have been thinking in making this doily too but there are some other projects in turn to be finished.  Soon my darling...  Soon I'll tat you!  LOL

The doily arrived home when I was in the hospital and mom brought it with some Cala Lilies on a vase.  So the doily was under the flowers and the whole thing looked awsome!  It really gave a nice homely touch to the hospital room.

Thanks Kate for this beautiful doily!

Blog EntryAnother Square DoilyApr 29, '06 3:43 PM
for everyone

Well, it's the same Square Doily that I'm selling the instructions.  I made this one using Anchor #20 in a varigated purple color.  I think I received this thread from Mary D. on the Door Hanger Exchange.

This doily will go to Kate H. in Texas.  She sent me a very pretty one in Purple shades too.  I have to scan it.  But I'll do it tomorrow.  Er...  In a few hours, because it's already 1:38 am!

I fall asleep for almost 3 hours this afternoon and now I don't feel sleepy.  Hmm...  What the heck!  I'll scan Kate's doily now.Image

Blog EntryMy Doily for AnitaApr 13, '06 2:51 PM
for everyone

This is the one she will receive.  I got the pattern from an antique magazine (circa 1942 - I can't remember from which magazine).   I have made this one several times.  It's one of my favorite patterns.  It's suppose to be for a dinning set or 4 pieces and this is the 2nd size.

I used Miquita, which is a Peruvian thread close to a size #30.  I love this thread because is like the crochet thread but softer like the cotton perle.

Blog EntryMy April ExchangeApr 13, '06 2:50 PM
for everyone

This is the small doily I received for April's Exchange.  Isn't it a cute one?!  It's from Anita Lausch from Canada.  The pattern is from "Traditional Tatting Patterns" from Rita Weiss, called Fairy-Tale Doily.  A great book that I will love to have!  Hmm...  Did she choose this one because of my obsession with the fairies?!   Fairy

The thread is DMC cotton perle #12 and is made in white.  I need to iron it a little because it was folded in the envelope and it's all ruffled and the picots are twisted some of them.  But it's really nice!

Thanks Anita!

This is the one that Mary sent me. She called a mixed media. The base is a pre-made foamie hanger with petals. She covered it with an old piece of wide edging and over it glued some tatting petals, knots and a butterfly.

I think it's cute and very unusual. Right now it's hanging on my bedroom's door here, but when I travel to Egypt I'll take it with me!

Thanks a lot Mary!!!

Blog EntryMarch Tatting Exchange - Door HangersApr 4, '06 10:00 PM
for everyone

On March I participated of another exchange.  This time the theme was door hangers.  It's the 1st time I participate in a category like this.  Usually for the exchanges are snowflakes, bookmarks, small doilies, etc.  So it was difficult to come with a door hanger with tatting.  First I was thinking in making it all tatted, but anyway I was going to need a hard base for the lace.  So I ended choosing a pre-made wood hanger.  I painted it a light yellow, almost cream...

The theme I made for my hanger was "Metamorphosis".  I tried to make like a metamorphosis from Flowers into Butterflies.  I think it worked pretty well.  My friend already received it and she told me that it's hanging in her studio french door.  Image

Blog EntryThe Other BookmarkMar 4, '06 3:50 PM
for everyone

Here is the other bookmark that I received.  This one from Lori from SC.  It's a gorgeous pattern!  You can find the pattern on Jane Eborall's web site.  It's made in celtic style.  I love celtic style tatting.  The interweaving of the pieces or elements gives a unique look that you can't find commonly in laces.  Also I love the colors she used!

Because I don't like beads on my bookmarks, she used lentils (is that the name in English? Image ) of a silver tone.

Thanks a lot Lori!!!

Blog EntryA gift arrived yesterdayMar 4, '06 3:45 PM
for everyone

I received this bookmark yesterday.  With the hook up to the DVD I forgot to blog about it.

I was participating in a Tatting Exchange about Bookmarks.  I had 2 partners.  Already received both of them.

The one here is from Traci Peterson from WI.  It's made using thread Flora #10 and decorated on the tasell with a blue crystal leaf.  It's really pretty.  I like this color.  I had some of this thread but in size #20.  Flora tats really nice but sometimes I find it too hard for my fingers.

Thanks a lot Traci!
